Healthy Start training for professionals
Supporting frontline staff and volunteers to help raise awareness of financial support available through the Healthy Start Scheme.
Who the training is for
This training is for professionals and volunteers who support, or are in contact with:
- low-income families with children under 4
- pregnant people
Professionals play a vital role because families are much more likely to sign up when the scheme is explained to them by someone they trust.

- what the NHS Healthy Start Scheme is
- who is eligible
- how families can apply
- how to start supportive conversations with families
Complete the training
Watch the training video and then complete the questionnaire. You'll then receive a certificate.

Complete the questionnaire
Complete the questionnaire to finish your training.
After you've submitted it, you'll receive a certificate confirming completion and you'll become a Local Healthy Start Ambassador.
Free vitamins
Eligible families with babies and children under 5 can get free Healthy Start vitamins.
The local health visiting team can explain who can get them and how to apply:

If someone is not eligible for Healthy Start
You can refer them to:
- JOY (a directory of local services and referral tool)
- Helping Hand on Buckinghamshire Council (support for residents facing financial difficulties, including help with food, clothing, money and housing)
