Adults mental health
Everyone has mental health. Good mental health means being generally able to think, feel and react in the ways that you need and want to live your life. But if you go through a period of poor mental health you might find the ways you’re frequently thinking, feeling or reacting become difficult, or even impossible, to cope with. This can feel just as bad as a physical illness, or even worse.
Poor mental health describes a state where the way we think, feel, or behave is negatively affected. This can lead to distress, difficulties in daily activities, or challenges in social, work, or family settings.
Just as someone might develop a back injury from heavy lifting, it’s possible to experience a period of poor mental health - such as low mood or heightened stress - due to life pressures, challenging events, or ongoing stress. The severity and duration of these experiences vary from person to person.
