Common challenges for men

Men may be less likely to talk openly about how they’re feeling, even when they are struggling. Challenges that can affect men’s mental health include:

  • stress, pressure or expectations around work and finances
  • relationship difficulties, separation or family changes
  • loneliness or social isolation
  • physical health problems or long-term conditions
  • alcohol or substance use
  • major life changes, loss or bereavement

Struggling does not mean failure. Asking for help is a positive and important step.
